The Network

The Skulpturenmuseum Glaskasten Marl is a member of the RuhrKunstMuseen. The 20 art museums in the Ruhr area have joined forces to form the RuhrKunstMuseen network www.ruhrkunstmuseen.ruhr2010.de. Most of the museums focus on twentieth-century and contemporary art, but also on nineteenth-century art, as well as old and non-European art. Individual houses offer significant collections.
From Duisburg to Hamm, from Hagen to Marl, a coherent network of top-class collections spans over 15 cities, housed in industrial heritage buildings, castles, outstanding post-war decades, and spectacular new buildings. A visit to the museums is also a representative foray through the Building Culture of the Ruhr area.
The cooperation of the RuhrKunstMuseen impressively illustrates the multifaceted holdings of modern and contemporary art in the museums landscape Ruhr. On the basis of joint communication, exhibition activities and mediation work, visitors and residents have been able to experience and find out the diversity of the museum offerings of the cultural metropolis Ruhr since the beginning of 2010.

Ruhr.2010 with consequences

The RuhrKunstMuseen stand for a unique urban museum landscape and an outstanding density of modern art, which ranges from the 19th century through modernism to the present. A coherent network of top-class collections extends across the entire Ruhr area, housed in industrial buildings, castles, outstanding post-war architecture and spectacular new buildings.

RUHR.2010, the Capital of Culture year, gave rise to the merger. Since then, the RuhrKunstMuseen have been operating as a network under this name and pursuing a joint marketing strategy: This also includes agreeing on a corporate design that can be found on the joint website, in exhibition booklets, and at trade fairs and events.

Cultural Network Ruhr

The network also sees itself as a cultural-political force and aims at networking between different public and private cultural workers and cultural institutions in the region. In 2015, the RuhrBühnen network was formed around eleven publicly supported theaters in the Ruhr area, based on the model of the RuhrKunstMuseen. Since then, both networks have been working together on the cultural tourism marketing of the Ruhr Metropolis. The RuhrKultur.Card is a milestone in the collaboration. With 21 RuhrKunstMuseen, 11 RuhrBühnen, 5 cultural festivals and numerous partners in the "Cultural Treasures" category, the annual ticket bundles the exciting cultural offerings across cities in the Ruhr Metropolis.
